Celebrate the Summer Solstice with this day of fun in the great outdoors! We will start the day with a 90-minute outdoor yoga class in the yurt at Piney Run Park followed by BYO bagged lunch until 12:30. Then, we will join a Naturalist for a guided tour of the 300-acre lake, where we will see the eagles nest and other features of this beautiful park! You are free to stay after the program to hike the 550 acres that surround the lake. Yoga experience preferred, no kayaking experience necessary.

Please bring your own yoga mat, blocks and a blanket or towel for yoga and lunch. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that can get wet, hat and/or sunglasses and sun screen.

Registration includes: park entrance fee, yoga class, kayak rental. Limited to 10 participants.

Piney Run Park is located at:

30 Martz Road, Sykesville, MD.

Enter the park then bear right at the Nature Center sign. Proceed to the Nature Center.



Heather Thamer

 Heather Thamer, M.Ed, E-RYT500, Accessible Yoga Teacher, Y4A Yoga for Amputees Master Teacher, Level 1 WAE Teacher, has been teaching yoga since 2006 and practicing yoga since 1992. Her classes are mindfully structured, blending asana, sequenced movement, breathing techniques and meditation. Prior to being a yoga teacher, Heather was actively working with and advocating for children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities across a variety of settings including: residential, work and day programs, in the public schools and was active with Special Olympics and The Arc. During her time as a special educator, she realized the value of yoga and the positive impact yoga can have on one's life. 

Since becoming a yoga teacher in 2006, Heather has taught classes for all ages, specializing in yoga for older populations, those affected by cancer, limb loss/difference, and chronic conditions. She uses a mindful, heart-centered approach to teaching yoga and is passionate about making yoga accessible and enjoyable. Heather serves as Co-Director of the Y4A Yoga for Amputees program, an international, adaptive yoga program for those with limb loss/limb difference/limb limitation.
